Late-Game Minecraft 356 :: Digging Out a Square Room
Beside the mob farm collection chamber, we dig out the space for a square room today! We intend to build a new farm in this room in the future. Although the room is within a slime chunk, we are not planning to turn it into a slime farm! Rather, we are looking to farm moss blocks with bone meal!
Looking around the space that has already been dug out, we head up to the deepslate base to get some items! We collect some honeycomb from the bee houses and breed the bees. We also harvest some cactus and chop down the birch trees behind the sheep pen!
After we sleep for the night, we head upstairs to the attic to pick up some granite! We fly over to the square stone platform across the river where we have been growing our moss blocks. When the moss farm is completed, we will finally be able to remove this ugly platform!
We count the number of blocks on the platform and realise that the square is 11 blocks in width! We destroy the floating birch leaves before heading down to the mob farm. More slimes have spawned while we were away! We slay them before trading with our cleric villager.
Just by trading rotten flesh, we have already amassed two full stacks of emerald blocks! Wow! Emeralds are not as useful as the items that can be bought with them, so we try to buy redstone dust whenever we can. We head to the entrance of the mob farm and start counting the blocks for the room!
Since we have been farming moss blocks on our floating stone platform without issue, we would need to recreate something similar here! Our room has to be as big as the stone platform at least, otherwise we may lose some possible moss blocks that would have generated.
In the end, we decide to make the room 13 blocks wide! We widen the entrance into the room as we want the entrance to be in the centre, but it cannot be centred within 13 blocks if it is two blocks wide! Once we are certain of the boundaries of the room, we start mining away the stone and the deepslate!
If we had planned for such a room when we first built the mob farm, it would have made our life much easier as we could have dug out the space with the help of a beacon! As we remove blocks for the room, we start to hear a zombie.
This zombie was the one who helped us to get cheap trades with our cleric villager, and it is trapped in a nearby cave! We sleep for the night before continuing to dig. Apart from a patch of dirt and some patches of granite, we do not find anything too interesting!
Although we know that the room is safe, the sounds of the zombie still keep us on edge! We should probably relocate the zombie so that we no longer hear its moans. We trade with our villager since it is a new day, breaking the window so that we can interact with her!
Continuing work on our square room, we mine some coal and redstone ore that we find! It takes a while before we are done. We step back to look at our progress, and store our blocks in the Shulker box! We decide to replace the deepslate on the bottom layer with stone as deepslate is harder to find.
Finding the centre tile of the room, we dig out a single stone block to mark its position! This will be where we place a dispenser that will apply bone meal to moss. We mine up the rest of the dripstone before going up to the basement to get more stone!
After slaying a slime, we sleep for the night. The next day, we patch the hole in the ground and trade with our villager! We craft a few dispensers with redstone, cobblestone and some bows. A large slime has spawned in the corner of the square room!
We trade with our villager again for more redstone and emeralds! Placing the dispenser in the centre of the room, we start digging out a trench for some redstone wiring! We place down some polished granite for the floor of the room before ending the episode.
