Late-Game Minecraft 370 :: Slime Block Flying Machine
We plan to use the space that we are hollowing out for a pointed dripstone farm! An easy way to harvest all of the dripstone would be to use a slime block flying machine to break off the stalactites and stalagmites. We try building one such flying machine above our beacon to test it out!
After entering our world, we start mining away a one-block wide slice of stone behind the beacon! Reaching the ground, we collect the stone and fly up to dig out a larger space under the river. We have learnt from our previous mistakes, so now we dig a small drain to catch any water that might flow into the room!
Sleeping for the night, we dig out another drain! We briefly head into a nearby cave to see where it leads, but it just goes to our bone block staircase. Then, we continue removing slices of stone! We encounter another gravel deposit, which is a little irritating to clear!
We place more torches on the exposed stone before storing the blocks in our Shulker boxes! Flying up to the ledge above, we continue to remove blocks for the top layer of the room. Hearing a slime, we glance over the edge and see that a large slime has spawned near our beacon!
Not another slime chunk! I guess we will have some free experience to mend our tools, at least. Mining some coal and iron ore on the walls, we cover the holes up with stone! We glide down to the floor below to slay the slime. Our Shulker boxes are quite full now!
Going down to the moss farm, more slimes are waiting for us! Fortunately, we do have a small use for their slimeballs. After dealing with the slimes, we trade with our villager for more experience to mend our tools! Our pickaxe is not looking too good.
Slimes seem to be spawning everywhere we go! We dispatch more slimes and store away the slime and redstone blocks in the barrels of the moss farm. Finally, some peace and quiet! We keep the stone in the other barrels before heading up to the deepslate base.
The wandering trader is still hanging out at our front door, even though we had already bought everything he has on sale! He drinks a potion of invisibility, which is a cue for us to go to sleep! The next morning, we move the items in our Shulker box into the chests of the attic.
Next, we take out some cobblestone, redstone and Nether quartz! We craft some observers which we will need for the flying machine. We also take out some chests and a piston! Chests can be used to stop flying machines as they cannot be pushed by pistons.
Since we need another piston for the flying machine, we head upstairs to get more cobblestone so that we can craft it! We craft two sticky pistons before heading down to the beacon pyramid. Here, we bring out our slime blocks and start assembling the machine!
For the dripstone farm, we will need a wide row of blocks to collide with as many pointed dripstone spikes as possible! The machine that we are building will not be the final one, but it would be good to see if it works before we start construction!
We place two lines of slime blocks with glass at the far ends! Then, we put the sticky pistons in the centre, facing each other but not directly connected. We place down chests on the two walls to stop the flying machines from hitting the walls!
Since we have some extra chests, we place them at the staircase landing! We place down two observers below the pistons. One half of the machine moves forward by one block, but it does not continue to move by itself! Eventually, we figure out that we had built the machine wrongly!
We have to put the observers under the slime blocks instead, diagonally powering the pistons! Once we have done so, the flying machine goes off by itself and comes to a stop against the chest! Nice! We activate the observers a few more times to see the machine moving back and forth.
What a marvel of modern Minecraft technology! We try to place down an observer block that would automatically provide a current to the machine, but the slime blocks stick to it! Oops. I guess we will just continue activating the machine with the observers that are facing downwards!
Flying up to the ledge, we continue to mine! After breaking into a small cave, we swim up to the surface of the river above where we see that it is already night! We quickly sleep in our white bed, but mobs have already spawned. We fly into the air to despawn any possible creepers!
Seeing some misplaced blocks in the landscape, we land to take care of them! Back at the base, we head down to the excavation area. While plugging some holes to the river above, we see some mobs on the beacon pyramid! I guess mobs can spawn on the flying machine!
After slaying them, we add some torches to the slime blocks. We keep our items and head outside to plant some seagrass! Then, we end the episode.
