Laying Out the Palworld Discourse
0Pocketpair released Palworld for early access in January 2024 and Oooooooooooh boy did the internet have thoughts. And for some reason, those thoughts infected my brain like an ilithid parasite. So I did a lot of digging and found more information on the topic and then developed thoughts about how deep the reaction went.
I tried to make this a non-biased report on all the events that unfolded around the game's reception (though I did let my bias slip in at the end after I found out that the internet was being...violent again). So come along with me as I explain what Palworld is, why people are mad at the CEO of Pocketpair (Takuro Mizobe), how AI and a cryptocurrency company called 'CoinCheck' links to it all, and the early access rabbit hole the company may be sinking into. Bonus points to anyone who can figure out when my dog woke up from his nap while I was recording.
