Alan Wake 2 - Not My Best Narrative of 2023
Edit to make two things clear: 1) This is my opinion and I changed the title to make that more clear. 2) I actually use they/them pronouns so I'd appreciate it if comments using pronouns for me reflected that. Thanks! :)
Alan Wake was a game released by Remedy Entertainment in 2010. In 2023, it's sequel was finally released. A lot of people praised it to the point where it won the 2023 Game Awards Best Narrative. And for a number of reasons, I do not agree. It's got some good elements to it, and I was happy to see Alan again, but there were parts of the story that are...lacking.
From not developing Saga enough, to changing facts from the past and connecting too many obscure key elements from other games, Alan Wake 2's narrative is too focused on presenting the player with a sense of ambiguity and mystery to help present a concrete narrative.
...man, I just did a tl:dr in 5 minutes....how did this video become almost 30?
Either way, it did! And if you'd like to see the extremely detailed version of my argument, well...just watch!
I'd also like to note two things: one -- this is obviously my opinion. Two -- If I see any comments saying bad things about Saga due to her being a woman of colour I will delete your comments and block you on sight. Racism, sexism, and any other brand of hate is not acceptable.
