Gradient Tool
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Gradient tool is very useful and powerful for graphic design and photo manipulation. Basically, it creates an effect that is similar to a sunset in the sky, with layers of colors that change over the course of the image.
Uses can range from artistic effects like simulating a sunset to something more practical like creating space on an image for text.
1. To access the tool, click and hold on the Paint Bucket button in the tool bar, the drag down to the Gradient option in the sub menu. 2. To use, simply click and drag across your canvas to create the gradient effect.3. If you want to change your colors, there are a couple of ways to do that. You can double-click the Background and Foreground Colors at the bottom of the tool bar and change them to what you want.Or, you can click inside the Gradient Option at the top Options panel. This will bring up the Gradient Editor dialogue box.4. Double-click on the small button at the lower left or right corner of the slider. On the top corners you can change the level of opaqueness and transparency. You also are given Presets. 5. Also at the top Options panel are Gradient Shape Options. These can range from creating a circle, diamond or other shapes that are both simple and unique.6. Like many other tools, you have composition options that can help with the manipulation of your image. Give them all a try to see what they can do.
* Opacity determines the transparency of your gradient.
* Reverse will switch the direction of your colors.
* Dither will help blur the different colors that are banning together, making a more natural transition.
7. Transparency will turn on or off the transparency of your gradient.8. You can even add different levels of Gradient to different layers within your image.
