In this video, Mahalo expert Gene Shaw explains how the Paragraph panel can be used to create uniformity with text across multiple images.

Paragraph Panel
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have a body of text in your design, the Paragraph panel will help you organize your words. Also, one of its often overlooked uses is template creation. In a production environment, you'll be called upon to create multiple images with similar settings. The Paragraph panel can be a tremendous time saver and help you with this process.

Open the panel by clicking on Window -- Paragraph in the top menu bar and making sure it's checked.

This panel controls paragraph alignment and justification, which is very important when you're building templates so you can duplicate and image several times with the same settings.

In the video, Gene gives us an example task of creating a series of postcards for a new resort. Each postcard is going to feature a different location from around the resort, but they all need to be uniform in appearance and layout. This is where the paragraph panel can be utilized to be a real time saver. If you set up your alignment ahead of time and then simply change the text, then every single location name will be uniform.

1. To do this, first decide where you want your text to be aligned (left, right, center or justified?). Within justified are also options to justify left, right, center or justified across the whole text field.
2. Duplicate the text in the Layers panel, then hide the original. Keep the new duplicated text showing and double-click that text.Β
3. Rename it to whatever you choose. In the case of the video, Gene has two layers of text, with the background text white and the foreground text black. Rename both the foreground and background layers to read the same.
4. You'll now notice that your new text is in exactly the same spot as the text on the other postcards.Β
