Info Panel
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphic design can be an exacting process. The Adobe Photoshop Info panel gives you several useful bits of information that will greatly improve accuracy in your work.
When you're creating art that's going to be downloaded into a machine and printed, there is very little room for error. The Info panel can save you a lot of time and stress.1. To bring up the Info panel, click Window -- Info in the top menu bar to make sure it's checked. You can also just press F8 on your keyboard as a shortcut.2. The basic sections of the Info panel are as follows:
* the color information sections (which include the RGB references and the CMYK references)
* the location section (which shows you where your mouse is hovering over the image you're on)
* the selected area dimension section (which will tell you the width and height of any area you select on your image)
* the estimated document size (which gives you an estimate of how large your file is going to be once you save it)
* the tool tip section (which give you an idea of how to use each of the tools). This is especially helpful if you're a newcomer to Photoshop.
3. The Info panel can save you time and stress by giving you this information. For instance, if you have a document such as the layout for a webpage that's already created and you wish to create a replica based on the size of a section on that page, you can use the marquee tool to select the section you wish to use as a template. The Info panel will give you information such as the size (width and height). 4. You can then keep the marquee tool selected. In the top tool bar you'll see a section called Style next to Width and Height. In the Style drop down menu you can choose Fixed Size and enter the dimensions of the section template you wish to create from in the Width and Height fields. Once you have the correct numbers in their respective fields, go back to your document and click on the page with the marquee tool selected. Your selection will automatically be the size you specified.5. You can now do as you wish with your new selection, such as fill it in with a color.6. There are also a couple of icons you can select in the Info panel. Next to the location section is a crosshair that you can click on to choose how you want your location information to be given to you: pixels, inches, centimeters, millimeters, points, picas or percent. You can also click the dropper icons next to the RGB and CMYK sections to change and specify which color mode you're looking at: Web color, HSB color, Lab color or Grayscale.
