In this video, Mahalo expert Gene Shaw explains the various options available in the Character Panel.

Character Panel
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Typography begins in the Character panel. Here you will find all of the options for size, color, spacing and style of your letters.
1. To open the Character Panel, click on Window -- Character in the top menu bar and make sure it's checked. You'll find all of the different font controls in this panel.
* First is the Font Name. If you click on that it will show an example of what the font will look like once selected.
* Next to Font Name are the Styles that are natively available in the font chosen. Such styles are Bold, Italic, Underlined, Regular, etc. Certain fonts have styles available that other fonts don't have.
* Below fonts and styles are Size and Spacing Options. You can change this size by either typing in a value or adjusting it with the options given in the drop down menu.
* The Tracking options lets you adjust the space between the individual letters and characters that you type.
* The Leading represents the space between the different lines of text.
* The Transform options allow you to make the characters larger or smaller vertically or horizontally, so they can either appear stretched or squashed. You can also change the Color in the colored field box.
* The Baseline Shift allows you to alter the distance between the initial line of type and your selected text.
* Below all of these options are the Forced Character Properties. If the font you choose does not have a style option, such as bold, Photoshop will force the characters to emulate that style by selecting one of these icons.
* Anti-Aliasing controls the amount of pixelation that is visible. For instance, if a font appears to have jagged edges, you can smooth the edges out by adding softness to them.
