About View Menu
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The View menu is where you will set up the layout and look of your main work area. These are another set of functions you will be accessing extensively through short cuts. This menu will allow you to Zoom In to your work, change Screen Modes, and control which Extras to Show. This section will be a main asset in helping you prepare your work for print.
Zoom Section
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Right below the Proofing section is the Zoom section. Here you can Zoom In and Zoom Out, make your image Fit on Screen, view the Actual Pixels and view your image in print resolution via Print Size. The three main keyboard shortcuts you will be using are:
* ZOOM IN: Control + on PC and Command + on Mac.
* ZOOM OUT: Control - on PC and Command - on Mac.
* FIT ON SCREEN: Control 0 on PC and Command 0 on Mac. This feature maximizes your image on the allotted space.
Screen Mode
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen Mode is one of the most useful options available in Photoshop. Using the keyboard shortcut F, you can cycle between Standard Mode, Full Screen Mode with and without the Menu Bar.
These modes are particularly helpful while illustrating because it allows you to clear all the clutter surrounding your image and let you focus exclusively on your illustration.
Show Sub-Menu
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many different indicators Photoshop makes available to you when doing precision work. Rulers, Layer Edges, Guides, Slice tools and Paths. This visibility of all these options is available through the Show sub-menu within the View menu. The Rulers toggle will activate the Rulers on your image, which is also how you access the Guides.
Click in the Ruler area and drag out a Guide. Release the mouse when the Guide is positioned properly over your image. You can also move these Guides around at a later time or remove them by dragging them back up into the Ruler.
In the View menu you can Lock Guides, Clear Guides and create a New Guide. If the Snap feature is turned on, whenever your cursor gets close to a guide or one of the other items that you set, it will automatically position itself on the item. The Snap option is right below the Rulers in the View menu. The keyboard shortcut to activate this function is: Control + Shift + ; on PC and Command + Shift + ; on Mac.
Slices are usually web-designed. They help designers cut up images for use in websites. In the View menu you can lock or clear them.
