Left 4 Dead 2 - The Sacrifice/The Passing Continuity
12Another Sacrifice video but this one is a little different. For those that don't know when The Passing was coming out the original intention was to have a random L4D1 survivor sacrifice themselves, that changed as due to issues with contacting Bill's voice actor Jim French (Rest in Peace) they were unable to record any dialogue with the character (this also happened in Crash Course), which lead to the decision of Bill sacrificing himself as the definitive canon incident. No matter how many times you play The Passing you will always see Bill's body and the other 3 survivors alive and well on the bridge. Despite this you can sacrifice whoever you want in The Sacrifice but ultimately it doesn't matter cause canonically Bill is the one to die...until today.
I stumbled into this mod that changes exactly that, it turns The Passing to the way it was originally supposed to be and better yet, the last person you chose to sacrifice carries over to the next time you play The Passing. If I sacrificed Louis, Louis' body will be by the generator instead of Bill and Bill will be alive on the bridge, even helping you. Remember since originally it was supposed to be a random survivor that dies, Bill was programmed to help the L4D2 survivors just like the other 3. It isn't perfect obviously, Bill still doesn't have any new dialogue and sometimes the characters will still be talking to the character that isn't there but the effort counts. I think the best part is that even the items carry over, from your last Sacrifice run and the characters can be seen with said items.
When I saw this I wanted to show this to some of my friends so we played through both The Sacrifice & The Passing to see that transition. Enjoy!
