Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver [ Playstation ] - Intro & Gameplay ( Up to Kain )
Feeling inspired to make a new set of videos today - especially considering how much I've gotten stuck playing Subnautica recently.. Here's a new set.
This is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
"Kindred, this blade and I..."
This game however, I was quick to pick up. I played it first as the infamous 'Lighthouse' demo that they had quickly scribbled together and the game utterly fascinated me. I loved the macabre design of the main character ( having always been a fan of skeletons and the like ) and the general atmosphere of the game. It was fantastic. So I picked the hell out of this game when I saw it released.
However, I was too young to truly appriciate it's complexity and advanced English. My friend acted like he did but he didn't understand it anymore than I did, and we had a bit of friendly rivalry. He liked Kain because he looked cool, while I liked Raziel because I found something identifiable in him. Ironic when one look back on this in a way.
I did not have a PS1 at my mother's place so we mostly played the game home at him, which translates to that he played it a lot more than I did. But it was fine because just like then as now, I am really not a fan of puzzles in games and the whole realm shifting was too complex for my young stupid mind. Didn't help that we cheated either so that we could shift at will, causing even more confusion at times. Somehow, we still found our way to the Oracle's cave, we faced off against Kain and -

And Messiah.
Welcome!

It was.. Interesting.
Regardless, the older I've gotten, the more appriciation I've gotten for the game to the point that I very often rewatch all the cutscenes and basically memorized all the dialogue in the game, in my head. The way they talk have really had a huge influence on me in a desire to write and talk like that myself.
And as you can see in this video, I was unable to stop playing until I had reached Kain.
But I guess that's enough gameplay, right?
