Welcome to the Legends of Runeterra Patch Note Review for the 4.2.0 patch, also known as the 420 patch! This patch is packed with changes to cards and the four factions, and I'm excited to dive into it.
Before we get into the details, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the sequence of patches we've seen so far. As someone who remembers playing Magic: The Gathering back in the day, I know how exciting it was when a new set came out. You'd get a bunch of drafts in and go to pre-releases, and it was a lot of fun. But after a few weeks, the set would start to lose its luster.
The same thing happened in Hearthstone, where the new cards would be great, but after you got to the top of the ladder, there wasn't much incentive to keep playing. This is something you don't want to see in a card game, and I think the balance patches are a great way to keep things fresh without having to invest in a new set.
Now, let's get into the details of the patch. The daily rumbles will now start at 10 AM server time, which I think is a great change. The 4 PM server time was a bit of a mess, and this opens it up to more people. The next Runetera Open will be from March 18th to 20th, and it looks like it will be an expanded Gauntlet Runetera Open.
Finally, there will be two new formats: a 30 hit point Nexus format and a Singleton format. I'm not sure how I feel about all the daily rumbles and formats changing, but I do think it's nice that it's not just best of three all the time. My hope is that best of three is the predominant format, and that there is a cycle of different formats leading up to the Runetera Open tournaments.
Overall, I'm excited to see what this patch brings to Legends of Runeterra. With the changes to the cards and the four factions, as well as the new formats, there's a lot to look forward to. I'm sure the game will look drastically different in the next few hours, and I can't wait to see what happens!
