Let's Next fest: Broken Lens, Wildmender, and The Invincible
0Next Fest 2023 is upon us, and I'm jumping on the demo bandwagon!

Broken Lens is a "spot the differences" game. That's all you really need to know, but if you want more: It's adorable! The music is really good! It's got a somewhat disorienting "split down the middle" display where you have look at both sides and find the differences whilst scrolling around. Honestly it's a cute game with a simple mechanic that is well-executed.
Wildmender is a desert survival game where you have to help bring back the gods to a blasted wasteland. You're thrown into the demo and then a lot of stuff is told to you very quickly. It was honestly a bit much for my limited time with the game. It's got a focus on water and how important (and limited) it is to the environment. You grow plants to grow further plants, to ... you get the idea. It seems like it has a whole biome-building aspect to it in addition to the usual crafting. There is also exploration and combat, as well as not-spooky ghosts to talk to in order to progress the skill tree. Honestly there's a lot going on in this game, and I hope it doesn't make itself more complex than it needs to be.
The Invincible is a very pretty retro-future game where you seem to be part of a faction in some sort of economic space-race. You're on a planet, and as of the demo: things are not going well. You're investigating just what the hell is going on, talking to your boss as you go. Honestly, I wonder if this demo is really doing the game the service it deserves. It's dropping you into the middle? of the story, and then you get absolutely inundated with Plot Things. It's a lot, and the pacing really suffers as a result. I love the acting, I love the visuals, and I love the setting, but by god is this demo s l o w. Hopefully the whole game's not like this, or it's going to be a crawling simulator
