Let's Play Atari Vault: Episode 1: PONG
To celebrate their entry in to the 3rd year of the Level 0 NPCs channel, Matt & Luke go back to the origins of video gaming, and play PONG as it appeared on arcade cabinets in the '70s, through the Atari Vault - a series of games that emulate old Atari 2600 games and arcade cabinets.
While playing the game, Matt & Luke reminisce about the last 2 years of the Level 0 NPCs let's play channel, their favorite series on the channel to date, and where they're taking the show in the years to come.
PONG is the first commercially released video game to appear on the mass market: Created by Nolan Bushnell for his company ATARI, it was the hit that video games needed to break out into becoming one of the most influential kinds of entertainment media in the modern era. Originally a coin-op machine, much like pinball which was popular in the time, the player controlled a paddle on a digital display with a trackball, that would move vertically on a field. A square "ball" would travel between the paddle and another on the opposite side of the board, and if the ball passed either paddle, a point was awarded. It evoked Tennis, or Ping Pong in the minds of a captivated public, and paved the way for video games in the decades to come.
