"Admiral Stone, I am pleased to report that two minutes ago a jump ship Daedalus, under the command of Isabella Walton, together with ships Eagle and Hawk left the Solar System. All onboard sensory systems report that the space jump using the "Hope" jump drive engine was successful. Previous testing simulations were accurate but we can't be entirely sure whether they will until they return. As per your orders the Daedalus ships returns within approximately one hour with a preliminary report detailing what lies on the other side. As required and if safe Eagle and Hawk shall remain stationed there. Meanwhile my vessels Monitor and Vengeance will hold their positions on the original coordinates to provide support as was marked in the original operation plan. Our next transmission will be sent in one hour assuming the return of the Daedalus or in two hours if complications prevent this. In any case we will proceed as was originally planned. Conor out."
From the wiki: Aurora is a 4X (eXpand, eXplore, eXploit, and eXterminate) science fiction strategy game. Players develop their interstellar empire from the humble beginnings on their homeworld to conquer the universe, or be pummelled into the ashes of history by opposing races.
Some say it has the graphical charm of an income tax assistant software from the late nineties, but a playing depth that more than rivals any commercial 4X game. Aurora is different because it places emphasis on fleet operations and detailed tactical combat.
The game is under constant development and there is an active and friendly player community in the forum that will help you with any question or problem you might encounter.

The game was created in the year 2004 by Steve Walmsley. The version I am playing is latest available at the moment of start (27/07/13) 6.21.
