The best advice I can give for this boss is for the love of God don't summon people, unless it's me.. seriously I counted 12 times last night when I helped people with Pursuer and they got on the Ballista and shot me or the host.. missing the boss completely.

The ballista kills players in 1 hit, the boss in 2 hits, but if you must try it then make sure no friendly is in the firing line.. please.

Best and easiest strategy I've found is to simply lock on, strafe toward him and his shield arm.. and occasionally roll out of his glowing sword attack.. seriously that's it. It's easy.. well easy for Dark Souls anyway.
