Let's Play: Doom (E1M8) [Special John Romero Map] - Tech Gone Bad
A playthrough of "Tech Gone Bad" (Episode 1 Mission 8) of Doom, played through GLBoom on a PC. 97% kills, 100% secrets (Max-Kill). This map is special in that it is the first map made by John Romero, one of the original Doom developers, after 21 years and is also non-commercial. It somewhat answers the question, "What if John Romero made E1M8?"
Ah, and here it is. Something that some of us never thought we'd see. This is an incredibly large map, larger than any map in Ultimate Doom. You can fit E3M6 inside of this map except for a tiny bit that would stick out (although this is the only map that covers all of the buildings and leaves only the external slime). It is a fairly complex map, along the lines of E1M7 or E2M5 in complexity, although after getting the first key the map is pretty straightforward. There's enough health and plenty of ammo for the Shotgun so you never feel like you are completely outgunned. Plus, plenty of corridors to hide around. As for the invulnerability, I think that just leaving everything alive in the poison area and going around and picking it up, then using it for that area plus the pit with the box of rockets on the platform. I think that's the best way. The end fight with the Barons is plagued by one serious flaw, in that the teleporters are not the most reliable to work. You literally just sit and wait for all of the monsters to teleport out. A small blemish on an otherwise amazing map.
