The more Edna looks around the place she once called home, the more sadness she uncovers. Time and time again, she mentions that she’ll start cleaning up the place ‘tomorrow’, work to making things just as they were. While it’s a nice thought to be able to forget all that she’s experienced, many things are working against her desire to return to ‘normality’.

Even if she manages to prove that Dr Marcel is up to no good and thus proves that she doesn’t belong in the asylum, where is she going to get the money to buy the materials needed to fix up the house? What company would want to take her on, an unskilled labourer asking for a wage large enough to support the house she lives in alone? So focused has Edna been on uncovering the truth that she’s put no thought into what she’s going to do after the dust has settled and that’s not even beginning to think about the possibility that she’s wrong about Dr Marcel.

While I hope with all my heart that everything is going to somehow click together perfectly and lead Edna to a happy ending, all the signs point in any direction but there. It makes me sad just thinking about and yet we press on regardless.
