Let's Play Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom (2002) - Campaign Play - Episode 152
Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom was the last of the city builder quadrilogy made by Impressions Studios based on the Caesar 3 engine, and arguably the title that refined the system the most, with more types of roadblocks and solid control over goods distribution. This ease of use also means the game feels considerably easier to play, but that's no hindrance for enjoyment. The ambience the game provides through aesthetics and music is quite compelling, and it brings many elements seen earlier in the series; it brings with it monuments first seen in Pharaoh (without making them feel equally arduous) and the gods walking the map first seen in Zeus (without making them feel fickle, vindictive or comical). It also added something of its own, namely the espionage system, opening up more ways to interact with other cities.
Much like my Caesar 3 playthrough, in this series we shall progress through the many dynastic campaigns the game offers, spanning the long and rich history of China.
I can't speak any version of Chinese, so expect me to butcher the names of places and people in my feeble attempts at pronunciation. Sometimes, I might even do so deliberately.
