While the group of Zidane, Vivi, Freya, and Quina are busy in Burmecia, we come back to the other group of Steiner and Dagger, who make it to the Summit of Borden Station. Now in Alexandrian territory, the duo is surprised by a visit by two other faces they remember. Cinna and Marcus, two fellow thieves and comrades of Zidane, have caught up with Dagger and Steiner of their events.

According to Baku, the leader of Tantalus, an item known as SuperSoft was rumored to be the key to help restore the Petrified Blank, another member and friend who helped the group escape earlier, with little fear of reawaking Evil Forest. Seeing a sense of obligation to the group for both rescuing her and helping her get to Lindblum, Dagger elects her and Steiner to help out. But shortly before making it to the bottom, the trio are ambushed from a unwanted familiar foe, Black Waltz no.3. After Steiner and Marcus dispatch the powerful yet crippled foe, they argue over who would be responsible of the devastation of Burmecia.

Dagger, knowing who was behind it, steels her resolve to return to Alexandria and seek a consul with her mother Brahne. The trip takes them to the Dark City of Treno, where Marcus meets up with his contact and Baku to prepare to steal the SuperSoft. Despite his best attempts to dissuade her from helping them, Steiner decides to help Dagger as well but the crime is halted when the Alexandrian Princess meets another old friend of hers. Doctor Tot, her former tutor and a beloved well respected scholar who left Alexandria 8 years before the events. He pledges to help Dagger and the group after giving Marcus the Supersoft by leading them to Gargant Roo, a rather unique but reliable means for the trio to return to Alexandria.

However, instead of hugs and love, Dagger and the group are treated with Iron and the mocking laughter of Zorn and Thorn, the court Jesters of Brahne and reveal that the Queen was responsible for the Waltz team and had order all 3 to be placed in custody for crimes against the crown.
