Let's Play Final Fantasy IX: Pt 10: The Fall of Cleyra PT2
0Part 2 of the 10th chapter of my Lets Play kicks off back in Cleyra, now deprived of the Sandstrom Barrier. Worried that Alexandria may attack soon, Zidane, along with his cohorts, elect to go down and investigate.
Their worst fear had come true; Alexandrian Soldiers and Black Mages start to assault Cleyra in two waves, one by the Trunk and the other from behind while Beatrix advances with no care to the throne. Shortly after rescuing as many Refugees and townsfolk as they could, Zidane and the group are surrounded, only to be saved by Sir Iron-Tail Fratley, Freya's mentor and lost love.
However, their reunion is not as she hoped. Fratley shows signs of Amensia, not able to recall much of his rise of a Dragoon, nor his time in Burmecia, and worst...the love he and Freya shared. It was due to Puck, the Prince of Burmecia, that Fratley was able to only recall some but not his full memory to return and protect his people. Shortly soon, Freya is overjoyed at least that her love lives and still fights, giving her hope to continue her training as a Dragoon as Puck and Fratley leave.
But as soon as the duo leave, Beatrix strikes, taking the gem and after a short fight with the group and dispatching them, flees Cleyra along with the Alexandrian Army. Seeing that there was little to no use to stay in Cleyra, Zidane, Freya, and Vivi decide to follow them as Quina makes it's way down the trunk.
Upon finding themselves on the Red Rose, the personal Airship of Queen Brahne, they bear witness to the power of the Eidolon Odin, the Norse God of Asgard as he charges down and unleashes Gungnir to decimate Cleyra and all the remaining survivors of both Burmecia and Cleyra.
Shocked and awed at the death of many of her people, Freya is struck in agony as Zidane and Vivi hide her and themselves on the Airship. It's here they overhear the conflict within Alexandria's General. Beatrix, finding it hardly needed for the Queen to rely on the Black Mage army or Eidolons, is questioning her resolve of remaining loyal to her queen. It comes to further question when instead of praise, Brahne demands her general to find one more of the Sacred Jewels the Army as recovered from both Cleyra and Burmecia. But the shocker comes after Beatrix inquires of Dagger's state, and it is a Shocker too.
Due to her stealing the Royal Pendant before fleeing to Lindblum, Dagger is accused of theft and upon her arrival to Alexandria, Brahne has ordered her execution by beheading. Shocked that the queen's announcement, Zidane in fearful rage decides to follow Vivi's advice to use the Telepods that allowed the Black Mage Army travel to return back to Alexandria before the Queen returns!
