Shortly after a few rounds of hunting treasure with Choco, Zidane and his group travel to Qu's Marsh, a murky place where Qus dwell munching on frogs as a means to grow in the ways of a Gourmand.

One particular Qu, Quina, is struggling with trying to feed itself that it's master, Quale, demands Zidane take it with him to grow and learn more than just what it knows. While we leave, Vivi brings up questions of his adopted Grandfather, Quan, to Quale but apart from a shock, no answers are given.

Finally, the group comes to Gizamaluke's Grotto, a passage under the Aerb Mountains that leads to the kingdom of Burmecia. There, the group finds it sieged by an army of Black Mages, lead by Alexandria's Court Jesters Zorn and Thorn. After clearing the halls and collecting the keys, the 4 make their way to Gizamaluke's throne room, where the great beast himself is a slave to the Jester's magic. Knowing they had no choice, they slay the mighty beast ruler and press on.

Meanwhile, Steiner and Dagger are seen crossing South Gate on foot, on route to the City of Nobles- Treno
