Let's Play Final Fantasy VI (Part 30)
We pick up Gau finally! Yay! Then we go and pick up Locke! Boo! We also go and get the worst shield in the game and the second strongest sword in the game. Then we gamble the sword and get the strongest sword in the game.
The Phoenix cave requires two parties. Of course if you have Mog and the Moogle Charm, one group can ignore all random encounters. One group will encounter the Red Dragon which needs to be killed for an Esper later. Alot of chests will be empty due to Locke looting them already.
With Locke, we can open the locked doors in Narshe. There are only two buildings that matter. One will have a man who will give you the Cursed Shield. The shield has horrible stats and inflicts every status effect on the wielder. But, if you fight alot of battles with the shield, it will break the curse and become the Paladin Shield which is the strongest shield in the game. Best way to break the curse is to equip a Ribbon to ignore the status effects and just keep fighting.
The other building will have another man who has an esper. He will offer it as either an esper or use the magicite to forge a sword. Ragnarok the esper is the only esper in the game that can teach you Ultima. But, you can learn Ultima from the Paladin Shield so it is not really an issue. Ragnarok the sword is the second strongest sword in the game.
You can gamble Ragnarok in the Coloseum (save first) to get Illumina which is the strongest sword in the game. The Coloseum is probably the worst one out of all games I played that had these sorts of arenas. It is a one on one battle where you pick any character you wish. Problem is it is entirely auto battle and the AI is pathetic. The AI just picks random abilities your character can do while the monster pounds them. So the more spells you have, the worst it is. And DO NOT use Sabin as he has a Blitz that will kill himself. My suggestion, save before each fight and hope for the best.
