Upon further evaluation, I have come to extend some level of forgiveness for the whole "learn about Gnath's God" stuff...because we actually know next to nothing about the Gnath themselves, while we DID for the other beast tribes.

He was granted this boon, little knowing that he did not seek the boon for protection from human beings. It was Rama, as a human, who ultimately slayed Ravana.
This is essentially why Shiva is doomed to lose her fight with him, as he cannot be slain by a God. But we, however, are very much mortal, and thus he has no protection from us :)
