To answer the question in the title - those AI faction armies after Tarnum's army gets done with them! We now have access to a Red Border Gate, behind which is located both the Pendant of Second Sight and a Green Keymaster's Tent - which we'll need to flag to get through the Green Border Gate to the S of us and access the AI-controlled area. We defeat a couple of Thunderbird blocking forces (not nearly as difficult by this point in the campaign as it would have been earlier on), and spot both Blue and Red AI heroes venturing our way to flag things for themselves. They shall not pass!
