Let's Play Kaze and the Wild Masks - Part 4: Running, Running, As Fast As We Can (2-5, 2-6, 2-7)
We continue through the middle of the second area.
2-5: Ropes of Hope - This is a desert level (in an ice world??) with a lot of ropes that move back and forth, a bit like Forest Frenzy from DKC1. It's not too hard, though it's the last level I played on my own time before the Let's Play.
2-6: Arctic Blizzard - This is another snow level, this time with wind. It could potentially have been very annoying, but it's actually not too bad, even the flying section (which bears more than a passing resemblance to the infamous bramble section of Animal Antics in DKC2, but thankfully, it's much easier).
2-7: Forgotten Mask - This level introduces the fourth and final mask, the lizard one. The gimmick with the lizard mask is that it forces you to run forward without stopping. It also gives you a double-jump and a dive-bomb (the latter of which I took quite a while to realize existed). This level, unfortunately, is where the game suddenly starts to get much harder and more frustrating. The level requires split-second reaction times, especially for collectibles, and it's very easy not to realize what action you're supposed to take in time and do the wrong thing. And the second bonus room is the absolute worst one in the entire game (not to mention probably impossible if you don't know about the dive move). This is the first level in the game that I truly disliked. It's extremely easy to die on, and the difficulty jump compared to the rest of world 2 is ridiculous. In the unedited recording, I spent nearly half an hour on this level, of which over 18 minutes was just in the second bonus room. And the future levels with the gimmick don't get any easier....
