Let's Play Mega Man 2.5D - #1: Making a Splash
13Welcome to my first impressions Let's Play of Mega Man 2.5D, a Mega Man Classic fangame developed by Peter Sjöstrand and his team. It's been eight years since the announcement video, and the result is "mixed" to say the least.
However, as the title states, this game is different from most other Classic Mega Man fangames as it uses a 2.5D perspective instead of the classic 2D one. Further, it's one of the only fangames that actually has co-op gameplay included. Not to mention that the co-op mode's stages have been tailored to make usage of two players, with new challenges and obstacles to overcome.
The story is that Dr. Wily has attacked Light Labs and kidnapped Dr. Light. Unfortunately, Rush was injured in the chaos, so Mega Man has to go (initially) alone. Thankfully, Proto Man has his back this time. So, it's up to the two brothers to stop the eight returning Robot Masters who are rampaging through the city, and rescue Dr. Light.
As I mentioned in the video, I was going to play this about two weeks ago. But, I was to preoccupied with designing my MaGMML2 (Make a Good Mega Man Level 2) stage.
It also appears that this game has a rather "mixed" reception. From what I have gleaned (without spoiling myself), the level design and gimmicks have some issues, most of the unlockables are disappointing, and the 2.5D perspective is not utilized enough. I'll be figuring out through this blind LP how much these problems hold true for me.
I begin by completing the Splash Woman's, Snake Man's, and Shadow Man's stages.
