The Let’s Play that Never was - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Originally, for my 21st Let’s Play back in April of 2020, to deal with the overall feelings of frustration and helplessness that I was feeling because of… well, everything that was happening at the time, I was originally going to try something new on the channel by delving into the Fantasy RPG genre and doing a blind playthrough of Oblivion.
However, after recording the first episode, I decided to scrap the project for a multitude of reasons- the first and foremost being that after doing some thinking, I wasn’t sure where to draw the line in terms of ending things. Would I stop right as soon as the main story was completed or would I complete the main storyline and the putz around in Cyrodill until I felt like ending thing? As such, since “The Elder Scrolls” is one of those series where you can’t end a playthrough without things feeling somewhat awkward, I felt that it wouldn’t be a good fit on my channel as a Let’s Play.
In addition, it didn’t help that I was still configuring my controller setup so that I could comfortably use a controller for all of the menus instead of doing some controller/mouse combo, as well as how I didn’t have any real game plan in regards to my characters class. Though in regards to the latter, it’s a good thing that I didn’t go through with the playthrough, because when I decided to do an unrecorded “Oblivion” playthrough afterwards, I quickly became aware of the severally broken leveling system. As such, if I would have continued with this blind playthrough, I would have been dying left and right after a few episodes.
However, despite canceling the “Oblivion” blind playthrough and opting to cover “Guacamelee! 2” as my 21st Let’s Play, I kept this video on my laptop- partially for sentimentality and partially because I was too lazy to even touch it… that is, until I had to move files around for my current Let’s Play and decided that this could make for a good Memorial Day treat.
