Stage 5 - Roof

Gameplay: If you thought fog stage was hard, then prepare yourselves for the roof stage that is of extreme difficulty. Here, it's day again, and the battlefield consists of 5x5 sloped side squares at the back and a 4x5 straight side in front. This means that the straight shooting plants will not be able to hit zombies if planted on the sloping side (although they can fire over the edge when planted on the first sloped column next to the straight columns). Instead, you must use lobbed-plants for roof stage. New plants you'll get to use here are Cabbage-pult that hurls cabbages at zombies, they are a stronger version of Peashooters as the Regular Zombies can take only six hits from them before dying, Flower Pot that lets you plant your other plants on the roof, like Lily Pad on the Pool and Fog stages, Kernel-pult that hurls kernels which deal weak damage, and butter that deals same damage as cabagges from Cabbage-pult and which can immobilize zombie struck by it, Coffee Bean that can wake up sleeping mushrooms, which finally lets you use mushroom plants during day stages. However, only Magnet-shroom, Hypno-shroom, Ice-shroom, or Doom-shroom are suitable targets for it (although in some cases, some other mushroom plants might be necessary targets for Coffee Bean too). Garlic that can divert zombies into other lanes when they bite it, making it useful plant on almost any level because with careful use, it can funnel zombies down lanes with greater defenses. Umbrella Leaf that not only it can protect plants in the 3x3 squares from getting stolen by Bungee Zombies and from being hit by basketballs of Catapult Zombies, but can also block Bungee Zombies from deploying zombies during final waves on Roof levels. Marigold, which gives you silver and gold coins and which makes it most useless and pointless plant as you can already get coins from killed zombies, and Melon-Pult that shoots Watermelons which can deal heavy damage to groups of zombies. New Zombies you will encounter in the Roof levels are Bungee Zombie that descends from the sky and steals your plants (arrow with a bulls-eye on it will warn you which plant will be stolen by Bungee Zombie), they will also deploy Regular, Conehead and Buckethead Zombies during final waves on Roof levels. Use Umbrella Leaf to counter them. Ladder Zombie that can place ladders on Wall-Nut, Tall-Nut and Pumpkin, allowing it and other zombies to bypass them. Magnet-Shroom can snatch it's ladder and Fume-Shroom's fume cloud can bypass through them, also Cabbage-pult, Kernel-pult and Melon-pult's shots ignore ladders (as well as newspapers from Newspaper Zombie and screen doors from Screen Door Zombie), Catapult Zombie that lobs basketballs at your plants, damaging them and destroying them. Like Zomboni, Catapult Zombie can crush plants, and will drive toward your house if there are no plants for it to shoot or if it runs out of basketballs. To defend yourself against them, you must use Umbrella Leaf that can block their basketballs. Also like Zomboni, tires on Catapult Zombie's catapult can be popped by Spikeweed, instantly killing it. Unfortunately, you cannot use Spikeweed on Roof levels as there is no any soil for them to be planted. And unlike Zombonis, Catapult Zombies can be slowed and immobilized. Gargantuar Zombie that is extremely durable to the point that insta-kill plants need to damage him twice in order to eliminate him. Along with this, Chomper is unable to instantly kill them, and instead can only bite to deal damage. Gargantuar Zombie can crush plants like Zomboni and Catapult Zombie, and what's worse is that it can even crush Spikeweed! When it loses half of it's health, Gargantuar Zombie will launch Imp Zombie who is least durable zombie that will land several squares ahead, only throwing the Imp Zombie when at least six columns away from the player's house. Gargantuar Zombie can only throw Imp Zombie five squares away from the right side of the screen. If a Gargantuar Zombie loses half of his health at the fifth square, he will not throw the Imp Zombie. Final levels is the boss fight against Dr. Edgar George Zomboss, who will continously deploy all zombies you previously encountered (except Flag Zombies, Dancing Zombies, any water-themed Zombies, Zombie Bobsled Team, Balloon Zombies and Digger Zombies) and will launch either fireball or iceball that can crush your plants and which can even crush your Roof Cleaners! The boss battle itself is a conveyor-belt level, so seed packets come on the conveyor belt at the top (or left) of the screen. The only seed packets that can appear are Flower Pot, Cabbage-pult, Kernel-pult, Melon-pult, Jalapeno, and Ice-shroom. Jalapeno can cut-off the effect of the iceball and ice trail from Zomboni and can even damage Zomboss, while the Ice-shroom is effective against the fireball, aside from their regular uses against zombies.
