Let's Play: Prey: Mooncrash - Part 1 - This game has legally distinct Graboids
1Welcome to part one of my playthrough of Prey: Mooncrash!
Hey, did you know Prey had DLC that was an entirely different story? With a roguelike game loop, new enemies and locations? 5 unlockable characters that all play differently?
No? Well it does, and it’s called Mooncrash!
The premise is that you're some elite VR gamer/hacker/guy being exploited by late-stage capitalism that has to dive into the last moments of the secret TranStar Moon base to figure out what happened. You do this by piloting 5 different people and... escaping with them? I dunno. I've only done like, 2 runs, so the story's still a little thin. Regardless, each character has their own playstyle, and you can set up their load out by spending virtual cash you earn in runs doing stuff (eliminating mobs, finding bodies, etc.).
What makes it interesting is that the map, people, and loot locations are static, it's the mobs, drops (what's in the loot locations) and the environmental elements that change. It also comes with a persistent corruption meter that fills up as you do each run, and is carried over into the next. The corruption makes mobs harder, and possibly other stuff (again, 2 runs so far). It's an interesting take on the Roguelike loop and I kind of dig it! looking forward to picking away at this over time.
