Let's Play Splinter Cell: Conviction | Chapter 4: Highway of Death | Rescuing a Brother
Welcome back to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, the fifth instalment in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise. The game features Sam Fisher as he is on the run from the NSA after being blamed for the murder of his former boss and friend, Irving Lambert, in Double Agent. Sam is whiling away his time in Malta when Grim manages to get in contact with him and informs him of a threat to his life, which leads him to information about Sarah and her disappearance, opening up a long-buried can of worms. The gameplay for this iteration has been changed to a simplified binary light and shadow mechanic, and sound no longer plays a large role. Furthermore, the focus has shifted to sneaking and neutralising targets instead of slipping in and out undetected like it was in the previous iterations, causing a divide among the fans.
As Sam manages to escape Price Airfield and take a brief moment of respite, he calls Victor Coste, his old war buddy, asking for his aid in the matter assigned to him by Grim.
He asks Victor to shake the tree about Russian EMPs and see what falls out with explosions raging in the background at the Black Arrow airstrip. The sounds remind them both of their moment of shared brotherhood all the back in Iraq, on the Highway of Death.
On a routine patrol, they were ambushed by the Iraqi military, and one of them was captured. Now, it befell on the other to belay orders of safety and extraction, and follow the trail all the way back to the enemy camp so that he may rescue his brother.
The soldier skillfully took out the remaining patrols on the Highway of Death before coming upon some soldiers standing guard outside of an oil depot. Determining this to be the spot where his comrade is being held, he infiltrated the compound, flanking, outmanoeuvring, and sneaking by enemies to gain every tactical advantage he could before he finally came upon the interrogation chamber.
Within, Victor saw Sam being subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques for the sake of information about American troop positions and battle plans. Refusing to let Sam be degraded any further, Coste put a bullet in his interrogators' heads before cutting Fisher free.
He radioed HQ for extraction, but the noise of the gunfire must have alerted reinforcements, for a whole battalion of soldiers descended upon them, leaving them to fend for themselves in a Last Stand.
Just when all seemed lost, US bombers arrived on scene with a danger close mission, and an extraction helicopter arrived to their rescue.
