Let's Play Superliminal #08: Time to Wake Up [Strobe Warning]
Be advised that this video may contains scenes not suitable for people who suffer from epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
This is also my first playthrough through this game. Kindly avoid posting spoilers in the comments or solutions to puzzles either in this video or future ones so as not to spoil the experience for me or those that haven’t seen the game before.
We're still trapped in our dreams. What's worse, the AI watching over them refuses to let us wake up, not perceiving that there's an urgent problem and instead forcing us to go through endless dreams forever. That we can't do that on account of us having only so many dreams is a fact the AI is either unaware of or ignoring due to all the contradictions that have arisen and so we're here, stuck in our head and in deep, deep trouble. Is there any hope for us? Can we somehow break out of our dreams and escape back to the real world, if it even is real? Let's hope we can because if we can't, well… Let's just say it won't end well if we can't.
What can I say about Superliminal that I haven't already. It's fantastic, for one. The game was a joy to play from start to finish and the premise was ingenious. Messing around with perspective was super fun and the puzzles were both challenging and intuitive all at once. The graphics were great, the music well placed and the controls were responsive. As for the plot, I must admit that I went into it not expecting there to be much of one but my, was there plot. The story was engaging, dramatic and a little sinister at times, all while having an undercurrent of humour and deepness that kept me playing. Then there's all the collectibles and secrets I didn't come across – or almost came across in some cases – that provide the game with replayability. When your only complaint about a game is that I wish it was longer but also don't because the length was just right, that's a good sign for me. I heartily recommend you play this game, if only to experience the madness that is the puzzles for yourself.
So, what's next? I think it's time to return to a genre I really enjoy and play a game that not only is a nostalgic one for me but one that's actually topical right now. Yes, you read that right; I'm playing something that's topical. That alone should give you all the clues you need to guess what it is but if you need a little more guidance, let's just say that there's more than enough explosions, dakka and mayhem to satisfy anyone.
See you next let's play!
