Let's Play The Banner Saga [Part 36 - Final] - Ending

I hope you enjoyed these Banner Saga gameplay videos, because this is the ending! Well, it's not just the ending cutscene, since we still need to cut down Bellower in glorious turn based combat gameplay, but we already finished the first phase of the Bellower boss fight last episode of this playthrough, and now we've just got to finish him off. Once we've killed Bellower/made Bellower think that he's dead, we can see the resolution the the story. How will The Banner Saga's narrative conclude itself? Who knows!

All I know is that I miss Alette. Poor, poor Alette. Damn it Rook, you should never have listened to her. No parent should outlive their child. It's a story we've heard many times in the past, and it never stops being sad. The Banner Saga has some touching moments dropped into its storyline, eh?

Leaving aside the story and the characters whose fates we shall not discuss further (until we do), let's talk about the gameplay of the final phase of the final boss fight of The Banner Saga. It's actually nothing special. With Bellower nolonger invincible, we just need to attack him until he dies. The danger is that he now gets to take a turn every time we attack him. It's a kind of eye-for-an-eye gameplay mechanic, but it's not too bad because I think each time he gets a turn it pushes back his next turn all the way to the end. Ultimately, this boss fight just entails focusing on bellower rather than trying to kill his minions. The only exception, and I mention this in my commentary, is that this battle also features a Dredge Stonesinger (you know, those crazy Dredge magic using units). In order to prevent it from doing any buffs or massive suicide bombing magic, I decided to target that and actually eliminate it before going after Bellower.

And one we have slain the Sundr, we can watch the beautiful ending cutscene and the conclusion to this story. Or at least this chapter of the story, since a sequel called The Banner Saga 2 is in development, and even the ending of The Banner Saga 1's story left a lot to be resolved.
