Let’s Replay Action 52 (Gen) #07: Repeat, Reuse, Recycle
102If there’s one thing you can give Farsight Technologies credit for, it’s getting the most out of the assets they made for the game. We’ve heard some music tracks multiple times, the limited amount of sound effects a lot more and the mechanics for games have been reused many times. Reusing things is nothing new and, when done well, it works to the better of the game question.
The Genesis version of Action 52 does not do this well, however. Some games that we’ve played are mechanically identical, with only the appearance and soundtrack changing. Others are the same mechanics tweaked a little to make it different enough that you can’t play it in exactly the same way, but they’re similar enough to each other to give a feeling of deja vu. Had Action 52 been a collection of 52 completely different games, then it would’ve been impressive just on that front, but we all know that that’s not the case.
