I know what you’re thinking. You read the title of this video and wondered just what I was talking about, as surely the obvious traps are the ones you can easily avoid. While that is true in some instances, that’s not always the case. Sometimes the trap is obvious because of the remains of those who have fallen victim to it before you, spelling out doom and possibly what it is but not its source. Other times the trap is obvious only because of its size, being so immense that it’s impossible to totally conceal it. The difficulty then is how to avoid setting it off.

The worst traps however are the ones that are placed to guard treasure, for they can be the most obvious of them all by design. They’re there as a deterrent as much as they are a trap, warning you away from trying your luck by spelling out plainly what’s in store for you should you risk it. This is best achieved with magical constructs or undead as guards, for they are tireless and single minded in their purpose. Many adventurers still elect to take the risk despite knowing exactly what’s in store for them, a gamble that doesn’t always pay off, especially if the trap is that there’s actually no treasure there at all.
