You’ve no doubt noticed the substantial amount of conspiracy talk that’s taken place in the game. I’d be quite surprised if you somehow missed it, as you’re bombarded with a half dozen separate conspiracies in the introduction alone. That was done to get the player in the right frame of mind for what they’re about to play, to warn them that not everything is as it initially seems. Of course, this then gets you thinking more about it, wondering if the conspiracies are themselves hiding further things from you and before you know it, you’re furiously peeling away the layers of the onion to try and glean just what really is the truth.

If there’s one piece of advice I’ll give you for Deus Ex, it’s that you should always stop to listen to hobos and bums you encounter on your travels. For being so down and out, they’re some of the most knowledgable and ‘in tune’ people in the setting, giving you insight that no-one else can. That’s not to say that every one of them is an invaluable dispenser of secrets; some of them really are just so drunk that they can barely string together a coherent sentence, but even in those ravings there could be a kernel of truth… or is there?
