Let’s Replay Deus Ex #22: On Trust and the Lack Thereof
150Throughout the game, we’ve been told to trust in our superiors and the orders they give, that we’re working to do good and protect the innocent. We’ve been told that the NSF have no basis for what they do, that there’s no truth in any of their conspiracies and that stopping them is paramount to making the world a safer, better place.
...But is that true?
Though many are quick to dismiss Paul’s reasoning as the deluded ramblings of a criminal, others are more cautious. They’ve never known Paul to make a mistake and are keen to his side of the story, his reason for turning against UNATCO. He tried to sway us over to his side back at the airfield but we were having none of it then, but the seed of doubt has already been planted, one that may very blossom if our superiors say things that make us question what we’re doing and why. All it may take is one small revelation for all the tiny signs that something’s not right to click into place and make JC wonder if UNATCO is actually doing things for the good of everyone else.
