Let’s Replay Wizards & Warriors X #01: Spoopy Castle Time
When an evil wizard kidnaps a princess and keeps her locked up in his spooky castle, you’ll need a brave and valiant hero to rescue her. When that evil wizard happens to be Malkil, however, there’s only one hero you call to save the day: Kuros. He’s defeated Malkil on many occasions – including their infamous confrontation atop Icefire Mountain – but no matter how many times he’s defeated, the pesky wizard just keeps coming back. This time, he’s taken the dreaded Fortress of Fear as his base of operations, the most spoopy stronghold in all the lands. That won’t stop Kuros from saving princess Elaine and ridding the world of Malkil once more.
The many tricks, traps and denizens of the fortress might, though.
Wizards & Warriors X is a platformer made by Rare and, true to the previous entries in the series, a rather challenging one at that. Your methods of attack are limited, your foes many and the levels, while short, are full of things you’ll need to memorise if you want to prevail. It’s not Ironsword levels of difficult – something I’m very, very glad about – but it was hard enough that I couldn’t beat it in my youth, only completing it when I originally let’s played it all those years ago. Now it is time to return to the game and see if I’ve gotten any better at it.
Who wants to bet the answer to that question is no?
