I seriously think the escorts shouldn't shut down if the objective is in view. Even if the mechs are busy elsewhere keeping them safe. It is so frustrating to be in a fight just barely out of LOS and have a truck maybe one move point away from the objective deciding "nope, we're sitting here until you can escort us".

Ideally, you don't want the fight in your line of sight, entity of primary interest. Just get on the ship and evac!
