Let's Try: Book of Hours

Usually I have some preamble about the game that I put in here, but Book of Hours... I don't really know how to describe it. You are the new librarian for Hush House, a dusty old manor stuck on the cliffs of a sea-side town. You wash ashore, your transport having been dashed by the waves, and make your way to the town. From there you must enlist the help of locals to help you get to your new home in front of Hush House. At that point, you must start your work of opening up Hush House.
This is all done through a seemingly simple card system, but gosh golly gee did I have some problems when playing this game. I want to preface all of this with: I really wanted to enjoy Book of Hours, so I really gave it my best shot, but there are issues that absolutely hamstrung the experience.
In no certain order, here are my criticisms/suggestions to improve the game:
- Fix the save system. Through no fault of my own, the save system exploded.
- Please write more of an intro tutorial. I almost failed the very first segment of the game because I simply did not understand what to do
- Please add a way to get rid of the little overlay messages that pop up
- This game absolutely needs a couple scripted scenes to draw the users attention to things.
To elaborate: despite attempting two runs at the game, I got stuck at the same point both times. I simply could not figure out how to get a key to open Hush House. The reason for this (which I learned after the end of the stream) is that you can actually zoom _really close_ to the map. When you zoom in enough, you are able to interact with things within your home. Like say.... with a key. For Hush House. That's right there on the mantel. All that frustration could have been avoided with one scripted event.
This was a ... frustrating Let's Try.
