You're a lil' robot tasked with tracking down some genetic material from a research facility. When you get there, things have obviously gone off the rails, and you need to figure out what's going on. Or maybe you don't. Maybe you just want to finish your job. Given that this game has multiple endings, that seems to be an option! Along with Laik, your helpful AI, you explore the station, working against VOLGA (the station AI) to uncover what the heck happened.
Genopanic describes itself as a (NOT)metroidvania, and I think, after playing this playtest, that it's a pretty accurate description. It's more like a bunch of platforming puzzles stitched together in a metriodvania style. You get a lot of your skills extremely quickly, which allows the game to open up the challenges pretty quickly. Overall I had a pretty enjoyable time. Some of the puzzles stretches got a bit punishing, and the game could do with an editor to clean up some awkward prose. Besides that, I rather enjoyed the game!
