The time of man is over. The time of the rats is upon us. They came from underground, we weren't prepared. We fought back, but to no avail. Now all we can do is run and hide whilst they work to exterminate us. The roles are reversed.

That's basically the gist of Shardpunk: Verminfall, which is a hell of a name for a game. You are a ragged team of humans on the perpetual run from the rats. You've got a robot that you have to get somewhere to turn the tides or something to that effect. The battles are an x-com tactical variant, with a few really interesting changes (limited AP, the constant reinforcement pressures, roguelike elements), and the inbetween has you burning resources in order to decide who gets healed, destressed, upgraded, etc. It's described as an x-com/darkest dungeon mashup, and I think that whilst somewhat true, it's also doing the game a disservice.

Overall I really enjoyed the game for what it was, though it could needs better mouse support, pathing (ai and user) and generally a bit more polish. That said, it's a very impressive installment into the genre, and even more so when you realize it's a solo developer.
