Libertarians Have Diverse Views on Intellectual Property
Visual Description: A woman addresses the camera. She has brown hair, brown eyes, and wears eyeglasses that she removes as she grows more frustrated. She wears a prairie-revival style dress in a dusty red or oxblood colour. There's a curtain in the background.
Description: I was part of a 900-some message debate about intellectual property with some other Libertarian Party members. In the nicest possible way, it felt like arguing with communists. I'm sorry, but as someone who believes in property rights, I don't like being told "the reason IP isnt property is because it does not have any scarcity, there is no limit on the amount of copies" or "You cannot steal something that exists in unlimited quantities". It felt like I was talking to communists, in that the people there didn't even believe in my right to ownership to begin with. As a content creator, this sort of messaging is deeply troubling to me. Intellectual property is property.
