Lightning Returns - Aeronite (Hard Mode)/Desert Dragonslayer Achievment (90G)
Another (non-commentary) tutorial-esque video for you all. This time it's Aeronite (Hard Mode) in Lightning Returns! This bastard is one of the toughest bosses in the franchise, with the third-highest HP count behind Yiazmat (XII) and Chaos Aeronite on Hard Mode. Beating him for the first time will give you the Desert Dragonslayer Achievement/Trophy worth 90 Gamerscore (G), which I show off in the Achievements section at the end. This is, obviously, being played on New Game +.
As for strategy, there are a different ways of dealing with this guy. I chose to make a schema that has 100% magic resistance. Do this by equipping the Quiet Guardian (which I chose) or the Cyber Jumpsuit and also equipping the two accessories Preta Hood and Runic Ring. Switch to this schema whenever Aeronite uses a spell on you, including Magnet. They will have no effect.
I would keep a strong guard on one of your schemata to block Megaton Break and Hellflare, as well as his normal swiping physical attack (if you get too close to him). A strong Steelguard (Aw, yeah!) will have no difficulty blocking his Roar attack. Again, if he attacks you with Fira, Blizzara, Thundara, Aerora, Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Aeroga, Flare, Chill, Surge, Tornado, or Ruinga, switch to your 100%-magic-immune Quiet Guardian or Cyber Jumpsuit schema. Use your strongest guard to block all else and hold onto some Phoenix Downs because Hellflare and even Megaton Break can kill you easily or at least catch you by surprise. Perfectly guarding Hellflare will knock off about half of Lightning's HP, so be careful.
As for debuffing, use Imperil and Debrave until he's completely vulnerable, at which point you should switch from Debrave to Deprotect.
Staggering Aeronite is difficult. I would recommend using Aerora and Thundara, switching between them so as to avoid wasting time on finales. Overclocking while Aeronite prepares for Megaton Break or Hellflare is a good way to stagger him. Remember, you have to stagger him four times, with only three minutes per stagger. Stock up on Ethers, Turbo Ethers, and/or Elixirs for Overclock and Esunada (if he Fogs you).
Once he's been staggered a fourth time, use Artemis's Arrows by equpping a Heavy Slash to the Soldier of Peace garb. My Heavy Slash also has Commital, which triggers Bravery and Vigilance, which is very useful.
Beating him will give you the spell Disaster, the quest item Monster Flesh, and the Desert Dragonslayer Achievement/Trophy if it's your first time beating him.
That's about all there is to it! Remember to like the video! If you have any questions or comments, leave them in the comment section below! And don't forget to subscribe for more videos like this!
