Limb Chopping, Evil Statues And The 5 New Features In The Surge 2
The Surge 2 builds on everything the first game did: more limb chopping finishers, a bigger and more open map and many new parts to slot into your suit. In this new Surge 2 gameplay (captured on PC) Matthew talks you through the biggest and best changes in The Surge 2.
Intrigued by The Surge 2 trailer? Why not try on some The Surge 2 PC gameplay for size. We spent an hour with the game a few weeks ago and got to test out new features like the directional block - setting up those wonderfully violent finishers - and seeing a fraction of the The Surge 2 map, which has a more open approach to level design. We also fight some living statues and then turn their weapons against the local scumbags. Which is fun.
Deck13, the creators of The Surge 2, have long lived in the shadow of Dark Souls. Mainly because they made Lords of the Fallen, which is very Dark Souls-y. The Surge takes plenty of inspiration from that series, but mixes it with new sci-fi DNA. And in this sequel the game really becomes its own. As if it needs to be said, this isn’t a The Surge 2 review - we will have The Surge 2 PC review when the game comes out. These The Surge 2 impressions are based on an early preview build. As much as we like the sound of the game’s direction, you do have to take it with a pinch of salt. As always, we recommend waiting for The Surge 2 release date (later in 2019) than preordering, or anything like that.
In our Surge 2 demo we explore the park district, take on new soldier AI - and their cloaking devices - try out a range of spears, lances and axes (and the finishing moves they trigger) and get to take our new drone for a spin. We also got to interview Deck13, and offer some of their thoughts throughout the video. Annoying, the most enticing of The Surge 2’s new features won’t really ben seen until we can explore the whole map. You’ll be able to get The Surge PS4 and on Xbox One, but we’re looking at the PC version, as we tend to do.
Hopefully our The Surge 2 preview answers your burning questions - if not, pop any queries you have in the comments below. I’ve love it if you would subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun for more videos like this, maybe give the video a little like while you’re at it. Anything to game the algorithm right? Oh, and if you are looking for other upcoming games like Dark Souls, why not check out our preview and impressions video for Code Vein. That can be found here: https://youtu.be/AwdK7WLR_Js
