Linux Lite is a beginner-friendly Linux distribution, based on the Ubuntu Long-Term Support (LTS) release and with the Xfce desktop, primarily aimed at those wanting to move from Windows or macOS to Linux.
Yes. This system is primarily targeted at Windows users. The goal is to provide a complete set of applications to help users with their daily computing needs, including a complete office suite, media players and other essential everyday software.
Now, the main developer and maintainer of Linux Lite, Jerry Bezencon, has announced the final release of the Linux Lite 5.6 distribution.
What's New in Linux Lite 5.6
After several months of development, Linux Lite 5.6 has arrived and is based on the one-off Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS release, recently released in the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS operating system series, but comes with the Linux 5.4 LTS kernel by default instead of its kernel latest Linux 5.11 HWE (Hardware Enablement) borrowed from the Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) release.
However, Linux Lite users will be able to install any kernel they want from Linux 3.13 to the latest Linux 5.14 from the distro's repositories.
A major change in this release is the fact that Linux Lite developers have adopted a “Pay What You Want” model for new Linux Lite downloads, similar to the elementary OS distribution.
This new feature allows the community to contribute money to the project, however users should keep in mind that Linux Lite will always be free.
About this, Jerry Bezencon said that:
“This is a road I never thought I would take, but we don't have a choice. Either we get stuck and accept the ever-changing algorithms of the big Gs, or we boldly go where others dared.”
In addition, the Linux Lite 5.6 release comes with Python3 as the default Python implementation, the ability to install Linux Lite directly from the Lite Welcome tool, the updated Help Manual and Papirus icon theme, new wallpapers and various bug fixes.
In addition, Linux Lite 5.6 introduces two new features to the built-in Lite Tweaks utility, such as full support for the Brave browser to clear the cache and the ability to set it as the default browser, as well as the ability to edit the menu. boot GRUB to display the correct naming entry as “Linux Lite”, but this only works if Linux Lite controls the GRUB boot loader.

If you want to use Linux Lite on your personal computer, the Linux Lite 5.6 ISO image can already be downloaded by going to the distribution's download page .
Existing Linux Lite users only need to update their installations following the instructions in the release announcement.

No prompt to eject Media at the end of the Legacy install, prompt is available at the end of the UEFI install.

Desktop icons - English support only.
Grub - press the ESC key whilst booting in UEFI mode after your BIOS has posted. Use the SHIFT key if running Linux Lite in Legacy mode.
Grub menu shows Linux Lite as "Ubuntu."
