What's New in Linux Mint 20.3 Beta
The Linux Mint 20.3 development was released in early October 2021 and is scheduled for release around the Christmas holiday.
The Linux Mint team has already shared some of the new features that come with this update in the Linux Mint 20 series, which is based on the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) operating system series and has been supported for 5 years.
Based on the Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS release, the Linux Mint 20.3 beta adheres to the Linux 5.4 LTS kernel to minimize any glitches that might occur during upgrades from Linux Mint 20.2 One or an earlier version.
One of the main highlights of the upcoming Linux Mint release is the latest Cinnamon 5.2 desktop environment for the main edition of Cinnamon. This brings some interesting changes and improvements for Cinnamon desktop users.
Another interesting change in this release is an entirely new app called Thingy (Library), which is an XApp that can be used as a one-stop shop to quickly access recent documents and bookmarks.
The good news is that the application is not exclusive to Linux Mint and can be installed on any other Linux distribution.
For all supported editions (Cinnamon, Xfce and MATE), Linux Mint 20.3 promises some interesting visual changes, namely dark mode support for Celluloid, GNOME Terminal, Hypnotix, Pix and XViewer applications. edition) even when using a light theme.
The default Linux Mint theme, Mint-Y, has also received several improvements, including more rounded title bars with larger buttons, as well as the replacement of accent colors with shades of gray.
Due to these visual changes, the Mint-Y-Darker theme will now be available in repo by installing the mint-themes-legacy package.
The Xfce edition comes with the Xfce 4.16 desktop environment, while the MATE edition features the MATE 1.26 desktop environment.
