X2 : The Threat
This is the second game in the X Space trading and combat simulator video game series set in the X-universe.
This sequel features an overall upgrade in every aspect of the game (better narration, updated gfx, more sounds effects, better voices, graphical user interface more usefull...)
~~~ HOW TO and troubleshooting ~~~
This game can basicaly run on wine straight on in a fresh wineprefix, but you won't get any voices nor ingame video; to fix this, you'll need to use winetricks to install some windows components :
a) Get winetricks :
wget http://winetricks.org/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
b) Sound effects fix :
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix ./winetricks amstream
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix ./winetricks quartz
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix wine regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\amstream.dll"
c) Video fix :
You'll need an (old) internet explorer component known as active movie for internet explorer ( amov4ie ). You may search for a copy of this installer in a search engine, or here :
http://howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/installer-directx-9-0c-avec-wine/amov4ie.exe
And now install active movie:
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix wine Amov4ie.exe
d) Voices fix :
To get in game voices, the game needs a windows media player codec, you can easily install it by :
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix ./winetricks devenum
WINEPREFIX=/_path_toyour_wineprefix ./winetricks wmp9
Missing mpg123 dependency and no music :
On some Linux distribution some packages aren't installed by default or are not available at all on official package repo due to legal concerns ( as far as I know, something involving patent and mpeg 3 licensing ) thanks to mrnuke for pointing that out. Here's a copy/paste of his solution for such distro :
"I found a thread that explained how to use a native decoder when there's no builtin decoder.
-After installing windows media player 9 using winetricks-
$ cd /_path_toyour_wineprefix/drive_c/windows/system32
$ ln -s l3codeca.acm winempr.acm"
