On archlinux:
Install retroarch and retroarch phoneix frontend
yaourt -S retroarch-git retroarch-phoenix-git
Install Modules
yaourt -S libretro-vbam-git libretro-gambatte-git libretro-genesis-plus-gx-git
Collection of Shaders
yaourt -S libretro-shaders-git

=== First RUN ===
Launch retroarch phoenix
Select a Rom
For the record : here is the retroarch config file (if you need to tweak some things)
Select the retroarch binary path : /usr/bin/retroarch
Select a retroarch module : /lib/libretro/-retroarchmodule- (here I am using gambatte module)

=== Configuration ===
Now, head over to the settings menu to configure inputs:
Moreover, you can edit path for savegame, screenshots... in the general menu

=== Shaders ===
To add a shader, settings/video and shader/filter settings.
Select a shader, (retroarch shader collection is located in /usr/share/libretro/shaders)
Don't forget to tick "Enable shader"
