Lionel Richie Boldly Claims American Idol Season 22 Contestant Sounds Just Like Dolly Parton
In the next episode of American Idol, the judges are so in awe of one of the auditioners that they compare her to the iconic Dolly Parton. American Idol has had so many talented singers grace the stage since the reality competition series debuted in 2002, starting with the original winner Kelly Clarkson. During the current ABC era, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan love hearing from singers who have their own identity, even if they have similarities or take inspiration from other artists. Only two episodes of American Idol season 22 have aired so far.
Aniston decides to sing an original tune called "Hummingbird." After performing, the judges heap praise on the singer, with Lionel saying, "About halfway through the first verse, I had to open my eyes and go, 'Is that you, Dolly?'" Luke really likes the song but gives her some advice for changes she could make, bluntly saying, "I got like four things I want to tell you to do to it." Then both Luke and Katy start singing the song some of the changes changes, and Aniston can't believe that these two music superstars are singing "a song that I wrote."
Luke Bryan Receives His "First Ever IV"
Aniston's audition isn't the only major thing that happens in the preview video. At the start before she enters the room, the judges are dealing with a situation that has probably never happened on American Idol. There's a medical professional giving Luke an IV while Katy films the whole ordeal. Apparently, Katy is forcing Luke to get his "first ever IV." Luke clearly doesn't want to admit the reason why, but he fesses up and says, "I won't take vitamins." Katy is having fun as she playfully asks Luke if he wants to hold her hand while the IV is inserted.
The scene at the start with Luke is fun to watch, but it's Aniston's performance that truly shines in the American Idol preview video. There are quite a few country singers that have gone very far on American Idol over the years. Katy, Luke and Lionel have seen country singers like Megan Danielle, Colin Stough, Noah Thompson, HunterGirl, Chayce Beckham and Gabby Barrett grace the stage during the live shows. Chayce and Noah even won the whole competition. Going back further, the most famous country singer from American Idol is Carrie Underwood.
